Writing was always something that other people did until I took part in a local event called ‘A Walk on the Wildside’. I was so impressed with the stories and history we were told, that I wrote it up for those that couldn’t attend. The article was posted on the local BBC website and bought by a magazine. Since that day I have been unable to stop exploring, talking and writing about the wonderful things that lie just below the surface of this beautiful landscape.
I feel as though I’m on a mission to promote Snowdonia and I prefer stories with happy endings. The more I can get published about this corner of the world the more likely people are to want to visit. A recent article in The Countryman was titled Underground in Wales and describes the activities of the Friends of Cwmorthin, a group of dedicated volunteers and their efforts to shore up a long ago deserted slate mine so that it is (relatively) safe to explore.
Another example is Sheep Poo Paper (Country Life) which tells the story of two entrepreneurs making craft paper out of ovine dung. Snowdonia is full of unusual stories and provides a great backdrop against which to describe the trials and tribulations of people with a remarkable spirit.
